Following strong and sustained community opposition to recent airspace changes in Phoenix, New York, Chicago, and Northern California; airports, FAA officials, and the NextGen Advisory Committee have considered how affected communities and their elected officials should be involved at the outset in implementing PBN procedures for the transition to NextGen to be successful. This year’s symposium will focus on lessons learned from recent PBN implementation efforts; the proactive steps FAA, airports, and airlines are taking to solicit community input; the tools being developed to better communicate NextGen goals and impacts to the public; what we can expect from Congress; and what new greener technologies and practices on the horizon will have in store for reducing aircraft noise and emissions.
