Emissions from vehicles used for transportation are one of the greatest sources of air pollutants and greenhouse gases. Researchers in the Air Quality Research Center (AQRC) and the Institute for Transportation Studies (ITS) at UC Davis collaborate to:I Love UC Davis Car

  • characterize vehicular and aircraft emissions
  • develop cleaner power train and vehicle technologies, such as fuel cells and hybrids
  • create and characterize new fuels, such as hydrogen and biofuels in conjunction with the campus’s extensive agricultural capabilities
  • conduct research with the John Muir Institute of the Environment (JMIE) to understand the effects of transportation emissions on ecosystems and water quality
  • develop policies that help promote cleaner, faster and more efficient modes of transportation

Engineers, social scientists, and ecologists work together to solve these multi-disciplinary problems.
